Our goal is not simply to prepare children for kindergarten. We want them to develop the confidence, curiosity, independence, kindness and love of learning that will serve them for years to come.
Children are encouraged to ask questions, try new things, solve problems, express themselves and learn how to get along with others, all within an environment built for young learners.

Hummingbird is a ministry of First Baptist Church of Thousand Oaks. We approach each child as someone uniquely created and deeply loved by God, and biblical values are woven naturally into the caring environment of the preschool. Families of every background are welcome here.
Deep roots in Thousand Oaks
Hummingbird Preschool has served generations of Conejo Valley families since 1978. What began as a ministry to local families continues today with the same purpose: a place where young children are loved, encouraged, challenged and prepared for what comes next.
Classrooms and programs have changed over the years. The heart of Hummingbird has not.

Teachers who know your child
Great preschool experiences are built on relationships.
Our teachers take the time to learn each child's personality, strengths, interests and needs. They provide structure and consistency while leaving room to explore, create, laugh, ask questions and simply enjoy being a child.
Because young children develop at different rates, our teachers encourage progress without expecting every child to grow in exactly the same way. The result is a classroom that feels welcoming, personal and encouraging.
Childhood should be joyful
There will be plenty of time for desks, homework, tests and schedules later. Preschool should still feel like childhood. That means painting pictures, building towers, singing songs, digging in the dirt, listening to stories, making friends, asking endless questions, and occasionally coming home with paint on a shirt.
Behind all of it is purposeful learning. Every activity is another chance to develop language, coordination, creativity, problem-solving, confidence and relationships. We take childhood seriously without taking the joy out of being a child.
